Montana does not require formal training so long as you can demonstrate familiarity with a firearm. For some, this may be demonstrated through a firearms training course such as this one. If you are not confident that you can pass a shooting test to demonstrate familiarity, you can use your Concealed Certificate of Completion in its place.
Obtain your Montana Concealed Carry permit application by visiting your county sheriff’s office.
You must apply in person to the local sheriff’s office for the county in which you reside. You will need the following documents:
– Your completed application
– Three reference forms, completed and signed
– Driver’s License or State ID
– Your Concealed Certificate
– Payment of the $60 fee. (Form of payment may vary by office and county. We suggest calling ahead to confirm)
You will be fingerprinted at the time you apply.
You will be notified by mail within 60 days if you have been approved or denied for your Montana concealed carry permit.
Remember that you must meet federal requirements to carry and possess a firearm. State and federal requirements may differ, and if you break federal law, you could be prosecuted in federal court.
