Avoiding Bankruptcy and Navigating the Fight After the Fight

Hello Concealed Coalition family, it’s Austin Davis, your National Director of Training! Today I’m going to talk about how to keep your family from facing bankruptcy in the potential legal fight that can erupt after a defensive use of force situation.

Setting the Stage

It’s a little personal story that hopefully we can take a lesson from. I had a recent call from someone I considered a close family friend, and this person has an adult child who was involved in protecting their children in a defensive incident.

They ended up being charged with a serious crime and were put in county jail. Just bailing this child out of county jail put the family in dire straits, and it resulted in them having to call everyone they knew to try to find funds to help the lawyer start the process.

Unfortunately in this country, a lot of times we only get the justice we can afford. And these people I know had no way of generating these funds to keep their adult child out of prison. They were facing bankruptcy in order to get justice.

What point am I trying to get across by saying this? We always need to think about being a guardian always and a warrior when needed.

Avoid Bankruptcy with a Prepaid Legal Plan

One of the ways we can be a guardian is having a prepaid legal plan. If you’re a member of Concealed Coalition, you’re probably like me and you have legal protection to help you with that fight after the fight. Personally, I don’t know if I would own a defensive firearm if I didn’t have Firearms Legal Protection to help me with the fight after the fight, because we know that is a definite outcome risk.

But when it comes to other members of your extended family or your biological family, your adult or teenage children, your brother or sister in law, your brother or your sister, do you have a plan in place if they call you? What are you going to do?

Are you going to say, “Sure, I’ll give you the money” knowing this is going to be an endless stream until we get this person some sort of legal outcome that is workable? Or are you going to have to shut the door and say you can’t give them the funds because you either don’t have them or know it’s going to be a bottomless pit?

Without funds, they may have to go to prison. But the whole point of this story is to be a guardian for your family, and if you think about it, one of those steps to guarding your family is making sure you have help for the fight after the fight because it can be financially devastating.

Avoiding bankruptcy - interacting with the police after self-defense
After a defensive use of force incident, there is a chance that the defender could go to prison. Having a prepaid legal protection plan already in place can help you avoid bankruptcy.

It’s something you definitely need to think about. As little as $15 to $20 a month in a prepaid legal plan could make all the difference in protecting your family’s future. Some family members may be more likely to face defensive situations where legal protection is crucial, and it’s essential to have a plan in place for them to avoid bankruptcy.

Seriously, take this time and reflect on what you would do if you had that call come in.

If that time were to come, would you have to hang up the phone and see someone go to prison, or would you be able to say thank goodness we invested in a prepaid legal plan? In the case of the second option, investing in this legal plan allows you to worry about the psychological and social consequences of the incident while someone else worries about the legal battle and legal fees.
