ATTENTION GUN OWNERS & FUTURE GUN OWNERS: GET CONCEALED CARRY CERTIFIED BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

How Old Do You Have To Be To Purchase A Gun?

To own a gun in the U.S under federal law, you must be at least 21 to buy a handgun from a licensed dealer. If the gun is purchased from a private, unlicensed seller, that age limit is 18. However, many states have increased the age limit from 18 to 21 for private sales.

When it comes to long guns, such as rifles and shot guns, the minimum age also drops down to 18 in many states. If purchasing from an unlicensed seller, there is typically no age limit when purchasing long guns.

As you can see, there are stricter laws when dealing with handgun purchases.
